Fashion Week Backtrack: Day 2 (Saturday), Show 1- ACADEMY OF ART GRADUATES
By now, I was in much better shape and had a much better handle on the scene so at 9am, I was already in the swing of things as I happily bopped into The Promenade for the Academy of Art Graduates show.
The large crowd was bright and buzzing with excited chatter from the students friends and family. I’m not really sure what I was expecting exactly, but the presentation was executed professionally and managed to be edgy without being over-the-top or too “studenty”.
The choice in models couldn’t have been better. I was excited beyond words to see one of my favorite models EVER, Omahyra Mota, strutting her beautiful tattooed Dominican body down the runway in Li-Jen Alan Lee‘s structured denim!!!

As far as describing the clothing, it isn’t too easy a task as there were several designers showing at the same time so there wasn’t any type of theme or seamless style for my brain to hold onto but I do remember being very impressed by the knitwear although I did wonder if some of it was a bit too chunky and weighty for Spring.

My favorite pieces were probably by Quyen Nguyen, who cited her inspiration for this show as being Girl Scout Uniforms mixed with Menswear. Cute.

I agree, my favorite was Quyen Nguyen’s too!
