Fashion Week Backtrack: Day 2 (Saturday), Show 2- SABYASACHI

Even standing in line I could feel that I was on the verge of something amazing. There was an eclectic mix of everyone from Bollywood’s brightest stars to stuck up socialites to top editors to scummy rocker chicks like me willing to stand in line for 2 hours, waiting for a seat at this “emerging” designers show.

Sabyasachi was the only show thus far that completely blew me away and moved me almost to tears. I know it sounds corny to get emotional over clothes but for me, there is something very powerful and moving when someone honors culture and tradition in an alternative and innovative way. Maybe it is because I am a woman of color who defies status quo, that I feel this way or maybe his clothes are really just that beautiful and EVERYONE felt that way? I don’t know. I just know that I loved everything from the Nirvana blaring in the background to the styling and of course, the clothes – OH, THE CLOTHES!!!
The diverse array of Crimson lipped models donned thick black framed eyeglasses and glided around the room in hand printed voile and silk blouson dresses – such incredible garment movement!- in knee-high dress socks and colorful croc pumps with wooden platforms.
WOW.
