Fashion Week Notes: Toms & Trovata Does Effortless Right!

26 September 2006 9 Comments

As possibly the trashiest of all trashionistas, I am all about comfort and ease — I promise you — even so, I just cannot squash the urge to sock anyone over the age of 12, with money, who pretends to care about looking decent and has the nerve to wear those wretched “Crocs” shoes out in public (unless they are gardening). I try to avoid telling other people what they should or should not do as I’m sure my unkempt appearance bums out a lot of traditional fashionistas but in this particular instance, I just can’t help it. People need to understand that they can be super-comfortable and ultra-casual without looking like their footwear just tumbled out of a 25 cent toystore vending machine.

Jack Nicholson in Crocs, Why?

Stylish people of the world, please take a cue from California-based designers, Trovata, who had the sense to team up with TOMS Shoes for their Spring 2007 Fashion Week presentation. Now this is how effortless SHOULD be done…

Available in 18 unisex colors and combinations, TOMS shoes are seriously amazing in more ways than one. Not only are these Argentine Utilitarian-Inspired slip-ons super soft, practical and comfy but they also operate under the ‘NO SWEATSHOP‘ credo AND have a greater cause. Each pair sold is personally matched with a donated pair to a child in need. Now that reason alone, if any, is enough to make you kiss your Crocs goodbye (Even though I wish you’d never said “Hello” in the first place).

I expect these to be my official slip-on shoe of the Spring/Summer seasons. Add layered necklaces, tousle hair and go!

I cannot wait to hear the sweet sound of the death knell for the Crocs. My best friend is in sales at a major brokerage here in NYC and was actually debating purchasing Crocs for herself and her portfolio manager boyfriend.

I told her that if she did, we would no longer be friends.

Seriously. There are so many better options out there! Even the Crocs ballet flats are better than the originals. Ugh.

These Toms/Trovata shoes are quite cool and remind me of an update of those peasant shoes they wear in the rural areas of Spain. LOL. Like the kind the dudes wore in “For Whom The Bell Tolls.” But perhaps that is too literary for a Tuesday night, hehe.

In any case, amen to the death of Crocs.

Hey, lets see you put a male model wearing crocs up-that pix-of a chubby middle-aged guy is SO disingenius when you try and compare him to the models wearing the Toms!! As for the shoes-if ya have to explain…I’ll keep on wearing mine as long as I can!

I’m sorry but I didn’t shoot any of these pictures. That is a picture of Jack Nicholson, I used a picture of him because he probably has access to any shoe he wants and chose crocs.

If there was a picture of a male model in crocs, I’d be glad to use it and they’d still be UGLY.

Ditch the Crocs for the TOMS - and receive free shipping this summer when ordering online from tomsshoes.com using the special code “ALICIAC” in the checkout. Save $6.95, look cool and help a kid in need! How cool is that?

Here, Here on the crocs being beyond reproach.
Ugly, polluting, plastic imports of zero humanitarian value. Croc is right, croc of sh##t to be more specific. The hottest shoes in the world right now are those that show you give a damn about our planet and its people. Take a cue from Jack White (ie. white stripes) and pick up a pair of Yellow Port’s White berks. http://www.yellowport.ca Sorry about the shameless plug but I figure every pair of theirs sold is one less for the other pig shoe companies.

Thanks for that code Alicia. I just bought another pair online with it and saved $7, not only that but another child in Argentina won’t be barefoot :)
