Metro.Pop’s August/September issue featured a beautiful editorial called “Seeing Double” (shot by Sarah McColgan and Styled by Beba Knight), that featured several models sporting Butter Yellow Oxfords by Wunderkind. At New York Fashion Week, Men’s-style Oxfords seemed to be the footwear of choice as well, showing up everywhere from the Sabyasachi runway show to the Vena Cava presentation. Just in case you are unfamiliar with the term ‘Oxford’, it is a lace up shoe with a thin sole, that originated in Scotland and is typically constructed of heavy leather. It is generally thought of as a Men’s Dress Shoe — I believe my Father used to wear them to church.
This is a look that works on the streets as well, The Sartorialist captured a really great shot in Paris of Teen Vogue’s Gloria Baume rocking oxfords with white socks and her trench coat. I’m loving it! My pick for really wonderful, high-quality, yet affordable Oxfords, is the ‘Gretta’ by Delman Shoes, made of tumbled-grain calfskin: They come in Black, Khaki, Light Brown, Natural and are available for $159.00 at BlueFly.com Filed under: Fashion and Fashion Week and Inspiration and Menswear and Models and Outfit Ideas and Runway Shows and Shoes and Shopping and Stella Recommends Comments:

I love the look of the Delman oxfords, but every pair of Delmans I’ve ever tried on was apparently constructed on the narrowest last known to humankind. (This is a great tragedy as Delman makes some heartbreakingly lovely shoes.)
People with medium-to-wide feet might need to look elsewhere for their oxfords.

Oh, Yuck. The black oxfords look like the Army-issued oxfords I could wear with my dress uniform, when I was in the Army. When wearing the dress uniform (called Class A’s), I could wear the oxfords or a plain black leather or black patent leather pump (purchased at a civilian shoe store.)

they’re school shoes! I bought a new pair at the beginning of each year as part of the back-to-school sale and wore them everyday at high school for six years. I never knew they were called Oxfords.
yes, we had to pair them with white ankle-covering socks too.

Oh no! Stella I like them. I almost didn’t at first–I first noticed them when I was writing a post about diffusion theory and fashion trends this summer. I wasn’t ready for them at that point, but they have really grown on me.
I love this post! And the pair you picked out is perfect. I also love how you’ve documented where you’ve seen them.
