Recently, my life’s greatest influences in terms of style, art, creativity, have been from 1960s France. Last year around this time, my style icon was Jane Birkin. Now, for Spring/Summer 2007, I am looking to the beautiful Yé-yé princess Françoise Hardy for fashion (and beauty) inspiration.
With her messy sexy, heavily fringed light golden brown hair–perfectly framing her strong square face, eyebrows as full as her neutral-stained pouty lips, and mostly minimal, somewhat menswear-inspired outfits, it is easy to see why she has been a muse to tastemakers like Bob Dylan and Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière.
If you pay close attention to Françoise’s personal style, you can tell that in addition to her favorite accessory; an acoustic guitar–she also loved boots, leather, the color blue, and a really good Spring coat!
I have to admit that I haven’t perfected my recipe for the ultimate Françoise Hardy S/S 07 look, but I’m thinking that Alice Ritter’s current collection might be a good place to start. *sigh* Oh Alice, my love…that’s another blog post in itself. Hell, I could probably devote an entire blog to my fascination with her designs. Anyway… Anyone have any good ideas for achieving this look? So, Chocowitz and I were at our local Joann craft store a few days ago looking at unicorn stencils and other randomness when he showed me this wedding publication that I had never heard of, called ‘For The Bride’, after the brunette cover girl with thick blunt bangs caught his eye.
I thought she was adorable too so I flipped through the magazine and WOW, I absolutely fell in love with this editorial! When I was a little girl, I never fantasized about my wedding and even as an adult, I have mostly had little to no interest in marriage and find most wedding attire to be bland at best, revolting at worst. So imagine my surprise when I laid my eyes on these pages and honestly thought to myself “These are my dream wedding looks!”. Because of that, I would like to share a few of them with all of you, my readers. Perhaps there are some unconventional Brides-to-Be out there somewhere who can be inspired by these looks as well.
To see the full-size versions or a couple more of these looks, visit my flickr account. Enjoy! Filed under: Fashion and Inspiration and Models and Outfit Ideas Comments: 2 Comments |

I’ve decided to crown a ‘Queen of Trashionista’ for 2006. Here are my nominations for the ultimate in Hobo Chic: 1. Cobrasnake Cutie, Cory Kennedy
2. Mini Mega-Mogul, Mary Kate Olsen
3. Celluloid Darling, Chloe Sevigny
4. Alt. Model, Audrey Kitching
Cast your vote here or nominate someone that I didn’t think of! They don’t have to be famous or well-known, they just have to be able to rock the Nouveau-Grunge style like nobodies business!!!! I wish I could think of some ethnic girls to nominate. *sigh* Filed under: Fashion and Gossip and Inspiration and Models and Random and Trashionista Awards Comments: 38 Comments |

Maybe all of you have already known this but I’m a bit too old to think of them as anything but corny babies until recently. More and more, I am noticing that I love the way they dress, especially Mary-Kate. It’s nice to see someone with so much money, dressing so trashy! I am ripping away the tacky teeny bopper/child-star stigma that I had been viewing them with and they are officially on my radar! Here is a photo of Mary-Kate a few days ago, sporting an 80’s era “FRANKIE SAYS RELAX” t-shirt with a quilted Chanel bag and some Terminator specs - Que Trashionista!
