It’s no secret that I am and always have been a supporter of purported mega-pervert Dov Charney and his casual clothing chain, American Apparel — despite the fact that the seams on my clothing from them sometimes unravel — so my reaction to to the news of American Apparel being sold to Endeavor Acquisition Corporation for $382.5 million is, well…mixed.
I like Dov so on one hand, I am very happy for him and any success he encounters in life. And, just like a Starbucks of the t-shirt world, American Apparel is already on every street corner so it’s not as if AA is some obscure little secret that is going to be leaked out to the rest of the TRL-watching world. Also, with more backup funding available for production costs, maybe the quality of clothing will increase but I can’t help but wonder “at what cost?”. Since both companies refuse to comment on the details of the transaction, I can only speculate. For me, a lot of AA’s appeal came from the fact that everything was made in the good ol’ U.S. of A — my hometown, specifically…while Endeavor is known to farm out their work overseas. I am hoping that the former will not change. I guess only time will tell. Filed under: Fashion and Gossip and Menswear and Random and Shopping Comments: 3 Comments |

Metro.Pop’s August/September issue featured a beautiful editorial called “Seeing Double” (shot by Sarah McColgan and Styled by Beba Knight), that featured several models sporting Butter Yellow Oxfords by Wunderkind. At New York Fashion Week, Men’s-style Oxfords seemed to be the footwear of choice as well, showing up everywhere from the Sabyasachi runway show to the Vena Cava presentation. Just in case you are unfamiliar with the term ‘Oxford’, it is a lace up shoe with a thin sole, that originated in Scotland and is typically constructed of heavy leather. It is generally thought of as a Men’s Dress Shoe — I believe my Father used to wear them to church.
This is a look that works on the streets as well, The Sartorialist captured a really great shot in Paris of Teen Vogue’s Gloria Baume rocking oxfords with white socks and her trench coat. I’m loving it! My pick for really wonderful, high-quality, yet affordable Oxfords, is the ‘Gretta’ by Delman Shoes, made of tumbled-grain calfskin: They come in Black, Khaki, Light Brown, Natural and are available for $159.00 at BlueFly.com Filed under: Fashion and Fashion Week and Inspiration and Menswear and Models and Outfit Ideas and Runway Shows and Shoes and Shopping and Stella Recommends Comments: 6 Comments |

_____________________________________ Who had the best Fashion Week Parties? Performing at Stereo was pretty cool, I also had fun performing at The Ruff Club. Watching James Brown and 2many DJ’s at the Diesel party was dope. The location of the Collete party was pretty funny, but I must say the best party of the week was at my girl Barbara’s apartment. She just put the the best group of people together…so much fun!!! Hands down the best hang of the week. In one of your songs, you say: “I like your outfit, Girl“…what is the type of outfit you are referencing? I’m not referencing any outfit in particular. I’m more celebrating the effort that girls put into their style. It’s nice to see a woman rockin a classy dress on her way to work. It’s sexy to look at a chick all sassy in her gym clothes. It’s dope to see a mamacita sporting vintage gear on her way to the club. I’m just thankful for the effort ladies…I like your outfit Girls (singing). Do you plan on making a remix where you say “I hate your outfit, Girl“? If you do, I think it should be about me. What do you think? I’m a missionary! Missionaries don’t hate! Plus, I’m feeling your Mother Teresa vibe! What top-secret superhero projects do you have in the works right now? I’m conspiring to take over the world as AFROBOTS; my musical answer for drug overdoses, and emo haircuts. I’ve got a limited edition t-shirt line in the works called “most hated”. Our slogan is “burning bridges…building empires”. Filed under: Fashion and Menswear and People Watch Comments: 2 Comments |

As possibly the trashiest of all trashionistas, I am all about comfort and ease — I promise you — even so, I just cannot squash the urge to sock anyone over the age of 12, with money, who pretends to care about looking decent and has the nerve to wear those wretched “Crocs” shoes out in public (unless they are gardening). I try to avoid telling other people what they should or should not do as I’m sure my unkempt appearance bums out a lot of traditional fashionistas but in this particular instance, I just can’t help it. People need to understand that they can be super-comfortable and ultra-casual without looking like their footwear just tumbled out of a 25 cent toystore vending machine.
Stylish people of the world, please take a cue from California-based designers, Trovata, who had the sense to team up with TOMS Shoes for their Spring 2007 Fashion Week presentation. Now this is how effortless SHOULD be done…
Available in 18 unisex colors and combinations, TOMS shoes are seriously amazing in more ways than one. Not only are these Argentine Utilitarian-Inspired slip-ons super soft, practical and comfy but they also operate under the ‘NO SWEATSHOP‘ credo AND have a greater cause. Each pair sold is personally matched with a donated pair to a child in need. Now that reason alone, if any, is enough to make you kiss your Crocs goodbye (Even though I wish you’d never said “Hello” in the first place). I expect these to be my official slip-on shoe of the Spring/Summer seasons. Add layered necklaces, tousle hair and go!
